Meet the Pack is a recurring series where I introduce the dogs who share our home, our land, and our hearts. Each one has a storyâsome joyful, some heartbreaking, all meaningful.
As I come to the final post in this series, I find myself slowing down. Some stories are easy to tell, and others ask you to sit with them first.
Before I introduce Willow, I need to honor Ruby.
Ruby, our Rottweiler, came into our lives after the passing of my husbandâs aunt and quickly became part of our family. Her time with us was far too short. An aggressive cancer moved faster than any of us were prepared for, and we had to say goodbye much sooner than we ever imagined. Still, Ruby lived a full lifeâone filled with comfort, companionship, and love.
Ruby shared a special bond with Willow. Their friendship was quiet and natural, the kind that doesnât need explaining. Losing Ruby changed the rhythm of our home, and in that space, Willowâs story shines even brighter.
Every dog has a story. This is Willowâs.
Willow is my heart dogâthe one who changed me in ways I didnât expect. She came to us through rescue, carrying a past we donât fully know, but from the moment she arrived, she claimed her place with quiet determination and unwavering loyalty.
Willow is a pitbull, a breed so often misunderstood, yet she is one of the gentlest souls Iâve ever known. She wants to be close, to belong, to know where her people are at all times. Whether sheâs curled up nearby, following me from room to room, or simply watching the day unfold, Willowâs comfort comes from connection.
She feels deeplyâjoy, loss, loveâand gives all of it freely. After Rubyâs passing, Willow carried that loss in her own way, reminding me just how strong the bond between animals can be. Through it all, she has remained steady, loving, and present.
Willow reminds me that labels donât define hearts. That rescue dogs donât need saving as much as they need understanding. And that loveâwhen given the chanceâcan be healing in ways we never expect.
She isnât just part of our pack. She is part of my story.
