This prompt turned out to be a little more interesting than I expected!
For my fairytale-inspired book, I actually ended up reading two books that I loved equally: Where Butterflies Wander and The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey.
The funny part is that I had originally selected Where Butterflies Wander for this prompt and then completely forgot about it. Later, I picked up The Snow Child, not realizing I had already fulfilled the challenge! In the end, I’m glad I did because both books were wonderful in their own way.
Where Butterflies Wander is a heartfelt story about grief, healing, and unexpected connections. Blending elements of magic and reality, it feels like a modern fairytale that reminds us that hope can sometimes appear when we least expect it.
The Snow Child is inspired by an old Russian fairytale and follows a childless couple living in the harsh Alaskan wilderness. After building a child out of snow, they begin to encounter a mysterious young girl who seems to appear and disappear with the seasons. The story is beautiful, atmospheric, and filled with wonder.
While the two books are very different, they share something important: both remind us that a little bit of magic can exist alongside real-life struggles. They explore themes of loss, love, family, and hope in ways that feel both enchanting and deeply human.
If I had to choose a favorite, I honestly couldn’t. Each one captured my imagination and heart for different reasons.
And perhaps that’s the perfect ending to this reading challenge. A prompt that was supposed to lead me to one fairytale-inspired story ended up giving me two unforgettable journeys instead.

Looking back on all 20 prompts, this challenge introduced me to books I never would have picked up otherwise. Some became favorites, some made me think, and some surprised me completely. That’s the beauty of reading—you never know where the next story will take you.
