For this prompt, I chose Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, a classic that I first read in school many years ago.
Set on the windswept moors of England, Wuthering Heights tells the story of Heathcliff and Catherine, two deeply connected souls whose love, pride, and choices create lasting consequences for themselves and those around them. The novel explores themes of love, revenge, social class, and redemption, all wrapped in a dark and emotional story that has captivated readers for generations.
I have to admit that, like many students, I probably appreciated this book differently when I was younger. Reading it again as an adult gave me a new perspective on the characters and the complicated relationships that drive the story. Some classics earn their place because they continue to spark discussion long after the final page, and Wuthering Heights is certainly one of them.
Whether you love it or find the characters frustrating, there’s no denying its impact on literature. Revisiting it reminded me that some books are worth returning to because we often discover something new about the story—and ourselves—with each reading.
