For this reading challenge prompt, I chose If He Really Loved Me by Julia Roberts.
Like many avid readers, I have a collection of books on my shelves that I fully intend to read “someday.” This book happened to be one of them. It had been sitting patiently among my other books, waiting for its turn, and this challenge finally gave me the push I needed to pick it up.
The book explores relationships, self-worth, and the often-complicated question of what love should look like in our lives. Through its characters and their experiences, it encourages readers to think about healthy relationships, personal boundaries, and the difference between words and actions.
One of the things I appreciated most about this prompt was that it reminded me to “shop my own shelves.” It’s easy to get caught up in new releases and recommendations, but sometimes there are worthwhile stories waiting right in our own homes.
While this may not have been a book I would have reached for without the challenge, I’m glad I finally gave it a chance. That’s one of the unexpected gifts of a reading challenge—it encourages us to discover books that have been waiting patiently for us all along.
This prompt was a good reminder that sometimes the next great read isn’t at the bookstore or the library—it’s already sitting on our bookshelf, just waiting to be opened.
