I started my reading challenge with my first book “The Heirloom Garden” by Viola Shipman for number 17. This was a book that was recommended by a friend. (My friend Emily gives the best recommendations). I have had this book sitting on my end table for about 5 months. I started with a Kindle Unlimited free trial and so I was trying to get as many books on Kindle in. I decided this would be a perfect book to take on my trip with me as I could easily read it on the plane and in the car. I finally finished it this morning.
At first, I was a little lost about what was going on. It flipped back and forth between the present (2003) and the past. Two women who find solace in their gardens. Abby’s husband returns from the Iraq war and struggles with PTSD, while Iris’s husband never returned from World War II. Despite their differences, they form an unlikely friendship and find a healing power with the flowers.
